Your Impact

When you support GLAAD, you help create a world where LGBTQ individuals can live openly and safely, free from discrimination, and ensure that our mission is carried out in the following key areas:

Consulting, Training, & Research

GLAAD is transforming industries through groundbreaking consulting, training, and research that drive meaningful LGBTQ representation. In Hollywood, we brought together over 150 emerging talents at the Black Queer Creative Summit, empowering the next generation of storytellers. Our expert consulting has shaped nearly 600 films and TV shows, ensuring authentic and inclusive narratives reach audiences worldwide. Beyond entertainment, our work extends to gaming, where GLAAD’s annual Gaming Report holds the industry accountable for LGBTQ inclusion, pushing for better representation in one of the world’s most influential media platforms. Through research-driven advocacy and direct industry engagement, GLAAD is setting new standards for equity and visibility across all forms of media.

Transgender Visibility & Education

The “Here We Are” campaign, created in partnership with Ground Media, directly addresses the fact that 71% of Americans report never having met a transgender person. By sharing authentic stories of transgender individuals GLAAD combats misinformation and humanizes the transgender experience. This work is particularly crucial given the current climate of anti-trans legislation and rhetoric. Research has shown that opposition messaging, even when heavily funded, fails to shift public opinion when confronted with authentic transgender stories and experiences.

Equity in Media

GLAAD drives equity in media through groundbreaking research and initiatives that push for more inclusive representation. The annual Where “We Are on TV” report sets industry standards for LGBTQ representation and provides actionable insights that drive progress, earning GLAAD the prestigious Governors Award for its impact on television. Through the Equity in Media and Entertainment Initiative (EMEI), GLAAD is also creating pathways for underrepresented Black LGBTQ storytellers and people living with HIV, ensuring their voices enter and succeed in the entertainment industry.

News & Rapid Response

In response to the 112% rise in anti-LGBTQ hate crimes last year, we launched the ALERT Desk. This vital resource allows us to prioritize LGBTQ-specific incidents for journalists, ensuring our stories remain part of the mainstream conversation while empowering local media and reporters to cover our community accurately and effectively.
