As a former Board member, being part of GLAAD remains one of the most meaningful chapters of my life. I saw firsthand how tirelessly GLAAD works for the LGBTQ community, often in the face of hostility, and I learned so much from the courage, creativity, and dedication of everyone who makes that work possible. I deeply cherish the staff, supporters, and community members who give GLAAD its strength and soul.
One of my greatest highlights on the Board was introducing GLAAD—its people and members of our community—to my dear friend Pope Francis, not once but twice. He was deeply impressed by everyone he met. I will never forget his words to us: “Keep up the fight, you belong everywhere.” I miss him everyday!
It is in that spirit that I celebrate with you 40 years of GLAAD and look ahead with hope for many decades more. May we stay strong, resilient, and in love with each other and our community.
